Terms and Conditions

The terms that apply when we survey, quote for and fit rooflights and skylights in your home.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

These terms apply to the surveys, quotes and installation work carried out by Prestige Skylights York ("we", "us") for homeowners ("you"). They sit alongside your written quote. Where the two differ, the written quote takes priority. Nothing here affects your statutory rights.

About us

Prestige Skylights York is a sole trading business that installs and replaces rooflights and skylights in York and within 30 road miles of the city. We have no public premises. Contact us by email at info@prestigeskylightsyork.co.uk or on WhatsApp at 07880 284133.

Surveys

Our survey is free and places you under no obligation. It is a visual inspection for the purpose of quoting, and may include the roof, the loft, measurements and photographs. Some conditions, such as timbers hidden under the roof covering, can only be seen once work begins.

Quotes

After the survey we send you a written quote, set out line by line, together with a plan for each day of the fit. Each quote states how long it remains valid. After that period, we may need to review the price before accepting an order, for example if product prices have changed.

The quote covers the work it describes. If, once work starts, we find something that could not reasonably have been seen at the survey and that affects the work, we will stop, show you and explain the options. We will not carry out extra work or charge for it unless you have agreed it in writing first.

Accepting a quote and payment

A contract is formed when you accept our written quote in writing, by email or WhatsApp message. Whether a deposit is payable, how much it is, and when the remaining payments fall due are set out in your written quote and agreed with you before work starts. Any deposit goes towards the cost of the work.

Your right to cancel

Because our contracts are usually agreed away from business premises, you have the right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The 14 days run from the day after the contract is formed, and you need not give a reason.

To cancel, tell us clearly by email or WhatsApp before the 14 days are up. You may use the model cancellation form we provide with your quote, but you do not have to. We will refund any payment you have made within 14 days of receiving your notice, using the same method you paid with unless we agree otherwise.

If you ask us in writing to start work within the 14-day cancellation period and then cancel, you will need to pay for the work carried out up to the point you tell us, in proportion to the full price. If you ask us to start and the work is fully completed within the period, you lose the right to cancel. Where products are made to your measurements and you ask us to order them during the cancellation period, we will explain in writing how that affects any refund before we place the order.

Access and your home

You agree to give us safe access to your home and roof on the agreed days, with electricity and water where the work needs them, and to clear small or valuable items from the work area. We will protect floors, stairs and furniture, make the roof weathertight at the end of each working day and take our waste away. If a scaffold must stand on a neighbour's land, you are responsible for arranging their permission. If access or the weather prevents work on an agreed day, we will agree a new date with you.

Planning and listed buildings

It is your responsibility, as the owner, to make sure any planning permission or listed building consent that the work needs is in place before work starts. We will tell you if we think consent may be needed, and our planning permission guide sets out the rules. Leaseholders are responsible for any permission their lease requires.

Building Regulations

We fit to current Building Regulations. Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Control notification with the local authority or a registered building control approver, arrange the inspections and pass you the completion paperwork at handover. Any Building Control fees are shown on your written quote.

Our guarantee

Every installation comes with our 10-year workmanship guarantee, in addition to your statutory rights. Products carry their makers' own warranties, which we pass on at handover. The full terms are on our guarantee page.

Our liability

We will carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, using materials of satisfactory quality, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. If we fall short, you are entitled to ask us to put it right or, where that is not possible, to a price reduction.

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when the contract was made, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

Complaints and disputes

If you are unhappy with any part of our work, please follow our complaints procedure so we can try to resolve it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
