Accessibility Statement

We want everyone to be able to use this website, and this statement explains how far we have got.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This statement applies to the Prestige Skylights York website at prestigeskylightsyork.co.uk. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it, whether they use a screen reader, magnification, voice control, a keyboard alone or a small phone screen.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content easier to use for people with a wide range of needs, including people with visual, hearing, motor and cognitive impairments.

What we have done

We built this website with accessibility in mind from the start. In particular:

  • Colour and contrast. Text and important interface elements have been checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratios, including text placed over photographs and coloured panels.
  • Headings and structure. Each page has a single main heading and a logical heading order, so screen reader users can move around the page by heading.
  • Keyboard use. Menus, links, buttons and the WhatsApp form can be reached and used with a keyboard, and there is a visible focus outline so you can see where you are.
  • Skip link. A skip link at the top of each page lets keyboard and screen reader users jump straight to the main content.
  • Images. Images that carry meaning have text alternatives describing them. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Text size and zoom. Pages can be zoomed to twice their normal size without losing content, and the layout adapts to narrow screens without sideways scrolling.
  • Motion. Animations are gentle, and they are switched off if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Plain language. We write in plain English and explain technical terms where we use them.
  • Links. Link text describes where the link goes, rather than "click here".

Known limitations

Some parts of the website come from other providers, and we cannot fully control how accessible they are:

  • The enquiry form. The form is embedded from our customer relationship management (CRM) provider. It loads inside a frame, and some screen readers and assistive tools may handle it less smoothly than the rest of the page. If you have any difficulty with it, please email us or send a WhatsApp message instead.
  • The map on our contact page. The map of our service area is drawn with OpenStreetMap tiles and is not fully usable with a screen reader or keyboard. The same information is given in text: we cover York and everywhere within 30 road miles, and every town and village is listed on our areas page.
  • Documents we send you. Quotes, day plans and handover paperwork are sent separately from this website. If you need any of them in a different format, such as larger print or plain text, ask us and we will provide it.

We review these limitations when the providers update their services, and we will update this statement if anything changes.

How we tested the website

We tested the website before launch using automated checks for contrast, headings, links and text alternatives, along with manual checks using a keyboard alone and at different zoom levels and screen widths, on desktop and mobile browsers. We will test again when we make significant changes to the design.
