Who we are
Prestige Skylights York is a rooflight and skylight installer working from York. We fit new roof windows, flat rooflights, roof lanterns and sun tunnels, and we replace old units that have misted, clouded or simply had their day. We work in homes that people are living in while the job goes on, so everything about how we work starts from there.
The name is about conduct, not price. To us, "prestige" means the standard of the work and the way we behave in someone's home: turning up when we said we would, covering what needs covering, keeping the roof safe, and leaving the room cleaner than we found it. It is a promise about how the job is done, and it applies to a single roof window in a terraced loft just as much as a lantern over a new kitchen.
Why we work the way we do
When building work leaves a bad memory, the product is seldom the cause. The trouble lies in the dust that found its way into every room, the evening the roof was left under a flapping sheet, the team that vanished before the plaster was dry, or the folder of paperwork that never arrived. None of that is hard to avoid. It just takes someone to plan for it before the first tile comes off.
So we plan for it. Every written quote comes with a plan for each day of the fit. Floors, stairs and furniture are covered before any tools come in. The roof is made weathertight at the end of every working day, without exception. Waste goes away with us. And when the job is finished, we walk you through it and hand over the paperwork, rather than leaving a note on the kitchen table.
How a job runs
It starts with a free survey. We come to your home, look at the roof and the room below, measure up and talk through what would suit. Afterwards you get a written quote, laid out line by line, and the day plan that goes with it. There is no pressure to decide on the spot.
If you go ahead, the same team carries the job from start to finish. We take the same care over the parts you will never see, such as the trimmers, flashings, membranes and insulation, as we do over the glass, and we photograph that hidden work as it goes in so you have a record of it. Where the work is notifiable under Building Regulations, we handle the Building Control notification and pass you the completion paperwork at the end. The area we cover
We cover York and everywhere within 30 road miles of the city. That takes in the villages around the ring road, Harrogate and Knaresborough to the west, Malton and the Ryedale towns to the north-east, Selby and Tadcaster to the south, the edge of the East Riding and the eastern side of Leeds. York's housing alone runs from Victorian terraces to inter-war semis and post-war bungalows, and the wider area adds stone villas, pantiled cottages and new estates.

What we fit
We install and replace roof windows on pitched roofs, including VELUX windows, flat rooflights and roof lanterns on extensions, electric and opening rooflights, walk-on rooflights for terraces and light wells, slim conservation rooflights for older roofs, and sun tunnels for halls, landings and bathrooms that a window cannot reach. We also replace misted and failed rooflights, either with a new sealed unit or a complete new unit, depending on what the survey finds. Our guarantee
Every installation comes with a 10-year workmanship guarantee. It covers the way we did the job: forming the opening, fixing the frame and weathering it into your roof. The products we fit carry their makers' own warranties as well, and we pass those details on at handover so everything is in one place.
